What does lower back pain look like?

You’d think I’d be able to tell you that having seen quite a few people over the years. But everyone is different.

This is what it looks like for me. Some days I can do this, other days definitely not.

I have a vertebral slip and a pars fracture in my lumbar spine. Sometimes the pain is so bad it takes my breath away and I can’t move, can’t get out of bed, can’t get up and I have to take a moment to prepare. I’ve no doubt that anyone reading this that has had back pain will know that feeling.

I know, you probably don’t expect a teacher to be in pain but I know I’m not alone.

However, it doesn’t stop me moving, I do my corrective exercises, my breathing drills, the Pilates exercises I can manage, the cardio that feels ok and I take it day by day.

Progress is not linear, I have flare ups, great days, horrible days and all the days in between but the one consistency is that I keep moving in some way because I know if it didn’t it would be far worse.

So whichever sort of lower back issue you have, I’m with you, be kind with yourself, listen to your body and most of all try to move well and move everyday. 😊
