WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a complete body conditioning method developed by its founder, Joseph Pilates, dedicated to improving physical and mental health. Its benefits include:
Targeting deep postural and core muscles.
Building strength from the inside out.
Rebalancing the body, bringing it into correct alignment.
Helping manage back pain, other injuries and conditions.
Creating balance between strength and flexibility.
Relieving tension and stress.
Lengthening, toning and reshaping your entire body.
The Pilates Equipment:
All private sessions utilise the original Pilates equipment, the Reformer and Cadillac, as well as small props such as the wobble board, foam roller, overballs, massage balls and bands.
The Reformer is probably the most well known piece of studio equipment in Pilates, consisting of a wooden or metal frame with a carriage on wheels that slides up or down. The carriage is attached to a number of different springs which provide variable resistance, allowing you to build strength and flexibility at your own pace. The Pilates Trapeze Table (or Cadillac) is an incredibly impressive, yet versatile piece of equipment. There are a huge variety of exercises that can be performed, suitable for all ages, fitness levels and abilities. Visit our blog post for more information on the Cadillac.
